Three DIY Projects using Rose Petals

Hello There!

In the spirit of Valentines day I wanted to share a couple of fun ways to use rose petals! Whether recycling old flowers from your beau or making gifts for girlfriends this is certainly a fun weekend project!

Dry Your Petals Naturally

You’ll need to dry your petals to get them ready for the projects below but luckily it’s a super easy step. You can either (1) spread them out in paper towels or clean towels for several days or (2) heat them in the oven on a cookie sheet for 3 hours (keeping the oven door open the entire time). Pick your favorite project and gift it to anyone special in your life who you appreciate. Everyone needs a little reminder that someone cares!

Rose Bath Salts

16 oz. Pink Sea Salt, Medium
16 oz. Medium Grain Dead Sea Salt
7 ml Wild Rose Fragrance Oil
Pink Rose Petals
Jasmine Flowers
Dropper

In a large mixing bowl, combine pink sea salt and medium grain Dead Sea salt. Using a dropper, add 7 mL of the Wild Rose Fragrance Oil (You can add more to make it stronger if you wish). Mix roughly with a spoon to let the fragrance oil soak into the salts. Then add in the pink rose petals and jasmine flowers until you’re desired with the look. Transfer to a container and voila! To use, just add to a hot bath and enjoy.

Unscented Soap Bars

2 oz water

Slice you unscented soaps into small chunks and place them in a microwave-safe bowl. Add 2 oz. of water to the bowl, and microwave in 30 second intervals until melted (usually 1 ½ to 2 minutes), just be careful not to let it dry out. Then place several rose petals into the bottom of the mold and cover the petals with a layer of the soap mixture. You can layer this by pouring a layer and letting it dry in the refridgerator for 20 minutes, then placing additional flowers. Just repeat until you’re happy with the look!

Once done, pop your soaps out of the mold. The edges should look perfectly imperfect.

Basil & Rose Kombucha Toner

8 oz Kombucha (of choice)

Cooling, soothing roses combine with basil, a powerful herb with impressive anti-inflammatory  and anti-aging effects, in this mild facial toner. It also features kombucha, which has been shown to have benefits for your skin that are similar to apple cider vinegar.

To make, place 1/4 cup of rose petals (dried or fresh), plus 1/4 cup fresh torn basil leaves in a glass canning jar. Pour 8 oz (250 ml) kombucha over the roses and basil. Cap the jar and place it in the refrigerator to infuse for around 1 week. Strain and store in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 months. To use, apply the toner to a cotton ball and gently wipe over your face at night, after washing.
