3 Ways to Check In with Yourself
Now that warmer weather is on the horizon, it’s time to slow down and really grab a handle on things. Lately, my social calendar has been piling up now that we can see light at the end of the tunnel! But we all know that once your life starts getting hectic it can be hard to carve out that extra time for yourself.
I’ve always believed in setting aside time to take care of oneself and it’s something that I refuse to compromise on. It is something that should be sacred and reflection of self love. Many people may feel these things are superficial but I believe that one should do whatever makes one feel most confident! The image I portray to the world is very important to me. When I was young and shy, fashion and makeup were how I expressed my true personality. And soon enough, it helped me grow into the vibrant woman I am today. No longer am I afraid of hiding how much I love myself or who I am. Taking the time to pamper myself and carefully craft my image makes me happy about what I'm saying to the world. So here is how I practice self love when I need to hit pause!
Listen
Our world is so hectic it is important to take time out to shut out the noise and listen to what your body is telling you. Have you been sleep deprived? Feeling sluggish or like your going through the motions? Are you practicing bad eating habits? I'm sure we've all been there and gotten to the point of burning out because we didn't take care of ourselves.
Give Credit
Don’t discredit the work you’ve done so far. I never gave myself credit for graduating college with honors, making my future happen for myself, and the determination I had to make a life of my own. Don’t forget the steps that led you to where you are. You put in the work, no one else. Give yourself a pat on the back.
Reflect
Reflection is necessary. It lets you see how far you've come and how far you want to go. How many times have you sat down and asked yourself what do you really want out of life? And I don't mean what the media tells you to want, but what would make you happy? I have fallen into this trap before, in an ironic twist my goals seemed to pale in comparison to what I was hearing from peers around me so I kept making my goals bigger and bigger until they weren't mine anymore. We all want different things and it's okay if you want something different than what someone else wants. You have to define what success means for yourself.
